Romeo and Juliet contains some of the most beautiful language Shakespeare ever wrote. We look forward to sharing that language with young people and lovers of all ages in our upcoming production. Remaining true to the Elizabethan text, characters and story, the play will be presented in an imagined context of what Romeo and Juliet might experience in today's world of inflexible, black and white political, religious and economic ideologies. The production is intended to evoke the tenor of our time, which Shakespeare might have said is "out of joint"Â.
Directed by Centaur Artistic Director, Gordon McCall, Centaur's production of Romeo & Juliet stars Montrealers Anthousa Harris as Juliet and Yan England as Romeo with Daniel R. Lillford as Montague; Cary Lawrence as Mrs. Montague; Quincy Armorer as Benvolio; Sean McCall as Balthazar; Mo Bock as Capulet; Jane Wheeler as Mrs. Capulet; Howard Rosenstein as Tybalt; Alexandria Haber as the Nurse; Paul Van Dyck as Peter; Francis J. Martins as Gregory; Kent Allen as Escalus; Brett Watson as Mercutio; Tadgh McMahon as Paris; Kim Doucet as Rosaline and Michel Perron as Friar Lawrence.
The stage is brought to life by set designer Shaun Gurton; costume designer, Elli Bunton; and lighting designer, Del R. Surjik. The team also includes Assistant Directors: Giovanna Carrubba and Brian Wright; and is Stage Managed by Barbara McLean Wright and Apprentice Stage Manager, Vincent Absi.
