Death March Diary

On Tuesday 1 March 2007 at a special event hosted by Imperial War Museum London, Isobel Pravda will read extracts from the diary written by her grandmother Hana Maria Pravda, during a death march from Auschwitz-Birkenau in January 1945.

Death March Diary

Opening when Hana Maria has started the march, Isobel will read a number of extracts that tell of her grandmother's remarkable spirit of endurance and eventual escape, her journey home through the war-ravaged countryside and the eventual news of the end of the war in Europe.

A remarkable first-hand account of the cold and terror of Hana Maria's journey through Nazi occupied Poland, this fragile item is one of the most exceptional items lent to the Museum and is displayed as part of it's Holocaust Exhibition.

The reading will be accompanied by a specially-devised musical score, provided by the Solaris Quartet who specialise in revising music composed in the transit camp Terezin. -- www.iwm.org.uk
