DivX, Inc. and 8 Wishes, a project that raises awareness and funds for children with dyslexia and learning differences, today announced a partnership to host an 8 Wishes video channel online at DivX® Stage6 (www.stage6.com/8_wishes).
In 2004, Paul Sanchez set off on a 10,000 mile bike ride around the United States on a mission to meet and make a difference for children with learning differences, a term he uses to express challenge rather than disability. His journey is the foundation for his future documentary, Solo Ride, which will raise funds to support his cause. As a precursor to his film, Paul made 8 wishes, including raising $1 million dollars and generating 100 million views of his "10,000 Miles and 8 Wishes" video.
The new Stage6 channel aims to fulfill his second wish by giving Paul's video a platform to raise awareness about dyslexia and other learning differences among an engaged community of viewers worldwide. To help with the first wish, DivX will donate money each time someone watches the "10,000 Miles and 8 Wishes" video on Stage6.
Bloggers can help boost the number of views by linking to the video on Stage6 from their blogs. As an incentive, DivX will give each person who links to it a free copy of DivX Pro software (a US $19.99 value). See the Stage6 channel for details.
"8 Wishes was created to give hope and support to children who are chasing their dreams despite their learning differences," said Sanchez. "My dyslexia set me back for so many years, but my viral videos give me the opportunity to make an impact nationally. With a video channel on Stage6, I can deliver high-quality, downloadable video to spread my message and create awareness of our cause." "Paul perfectly embodies the type of content creator Stage6 strives to serve--someone who is passionate about his or her cause and who creates meaningful content intended to make a difference," said Darrius Thompson, CXO, Community and Internet, DivX, Inc. "Stage6 gives creators like Paul a platform upon which to build a sincere content brand and leverage the power of the Internet to reach a global audience."
While Stage6 offers a high-quality online viewing experience, 8 Wishes supporters can also take their videos beyond the PC to play on a range of compatible DivX Certified® DVD players, portable media players, in-car DVD players and other devices.
Devices that bear the DivX Certified logo have undergone rigorous testing to ensure interoperability, dependability and reliable video playback. To date, DivX partners Philips, Sony, Toshiba and other leading consumer electronics brands have shipped more than 70 million DivX Certified products worldwide.
