The Hypocrisy of the U.N: Credibility in question

The United Nations, an organization slated to serve, protect, and defend the citizens of the world has a less than perfect track record for doing just that. Peacekeeping "forces" wearing blue helmets stood idly by and watched a genocide in Rwanda, allowed Israeli soldiers to be kidnapped by Hezbollah, and did nothing to stop a violent coup and political riots in Haiti. It is clear that the U.N. is plagued with ineptitude and inaction.

Most recently, when those very same Peacekeeping "forces" took action in a situation, they shot rubber- coated bullets at the heads of innocent citizens rallying for their right to independence and protesting injustice in Kosovo. Those rubber-coated bullets killed two ethnic-Albanian men, and wounded over 70 people. To add insult to injury, the Peacekeeping "force" that was in place was comprised of Ukranian and Romanian officers who have a well known tendency to be pro-slavic.

Former U.S. Congressman, Joe DioGuardi is the current President of the Albanian American Civic League, the sole American lobbying/watchdog group raising awareness of this issue for the United States government is outraged. "When Congressman Tom Lantos and I were in Kosova in 1990, even Milosevic's troops aimed their bullets for the legs of the opponents. It is appalling that supposed Peacekeepers would use deadly force with what should be non-lethal weapons to keep a peaceful rally from growing into a violent riot."
