What Makes Cancer Cells Go?

Dr. Thea Tlsty, an expert on cancer at the University of California at San Francisco, will present some of the latest research on the origin and development of cancerous cells in the body, in the final Exploratorium Cutting-Edge Biology Lecture Series event of the season. This event, What Makes Cancer Cells Go?, is free and open to the public and takes place on Thursday, April 5, 2007 at 7pm in the Exploratorium's McBean Theater.

Over the past several years, our scientific and medical understanding of cancer cells has grown considerably more sophisticated. In fact, it appears that some forms of cancer may trace their origins to rogue stem cells. In this public presentation, visitors will be able to observe cancer cells first-hand and explore our latest scientific understanding of how these cells arise - and how they may relate to the biological processes that make life possible. Admission is free. Seating is limited and will be available on a first come, first served basis.

These programs on biomedical research horizons are supported by funding from the National Center for Research Resources (NCRR) of the National Institutes of Health under the Science Education Partnership Award (SEPA). -- www.exploratorium.edu
