Tactical Military BGAN Terminal Receives AN/PSC-14 Nomenclature

ViaSat Inc. received the AN/PSC-14 designation from the Department of Defense for its new Inmarsat IP-based Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) tactical terminal

The AN/PSC-14 is a unique combination of the affordable BGAN terminal with a High Assurance IP Encryption Type 1 security device, providing the tactical user an integrated, ruggedized satellite communications terminal for secure voice and broadband IP data. A mock-up of the AN/PSC-14 and more information will be available in the ViaSat booth at Satellite 20007, February 20-22 at the Washington DC Convention Center (booth 627).

The AN/PSC-14 uses ViaSat AltaSec IP inline encryption equipment to provide HAIPE version 1.3.5 Type 1 information assurance. The secure BGAN terminal is in the certification process with the National Security Agency and will then progress to Inmarsat type approval. AN/PSC-14 capabilities will be demonstrated during the course of factory acceptance testing and military field trials.

The BGAN service is the world's first mobile communications service to deliver simultaneous voice and broadband IP data to a highly portable device on a global basis. BGAN terminals support standard IP speeds of up to half-a-megabit per second and streaming IP data rates of up to 256 kbps - ViaSat.
