Registrations Open For ASX Schools Sharemarket Game

The Australian Securities Exchange (ASX), with the continued support of Citigroup, is pleased to launch the 2007 ASX Schools Sharemarket Game. ASX has been running the Schools Sharemarket Game for more than 25 years with students from over half the secondary schools in Australia now participating. In 2006, in excess of 81,000 students took part.

The Schools Sharemarket Game provides students with first-hand experience in understanding how the sharemarket works. Students can hypothetically invest up to $50,000 in 200 listed companies over a 10-week period. Students with the highest valued portfolio at the end of the Game, together with their school, share in a prize pool of over $25,000.

Registration for the 2007 Game is open from 19 February to 13 March. Trading in the Game commences on 15 March and will conclude on 24 May. Participation is free.

This year's Game has been improved with greater functionality, upgraded charting, sectoral analysis and portfolio breakdowns. Lessons for the use of teachers have also been redeveloped. ASX Managing Director and CEO Robert Elstone said: "The Schools Sharemarket Game is highly complementary with the drive for greater financial literacy. For ASX, it is important that school children, who are our future investors, become informed investors and learn about the risks as well as the benefits of investing in the sharemarket. The Schools Sharemarket Game is a great way of achieving this and provides secondary students from across Australia with the opportunity to participate. We thank Citigroup for nearly 20 years of active support in this endeavour."

A CD-ROM providing a tour of the Schools Sharemarket Game is available upon request (Emma Santone +61 2 9227 0120 or emma.santone@asx.com.au) and can be downloaded from the ASX website (www.asx.com.au/sharegame). -- www.asx.com.au
