Art Of Pre-Raphaelites From Delaware Art Museum

On view through April 29, 2007, in the Museum's Main Exhibition Galleries, Waking Dreams: The Art of the Pre-Raphaelites from the Delaware Art Museum features paintings, works on paper and decorative arts by the Pre-Raphaelites, a group of artists inspired by mythology, literature and legend.

Taking their name from the time before the Renaissance master Raphael--a time they considered to be a more honest period of art making-the Pre-Raphaelites rejected what they saw to be the painterly and contrived teachings of the established London art institutions of the day in favor of bright, jewel-like colors and close, detailed observations of nature characteristic of early Italian art.

Media access to the exhibition Waking Dreams: The Art of the Pre-Raphaelites from the Delaware Art Museum and an opportunity to speak with Charlotte Eyerman, curator of modern and contemporary art at the Saint Louis Art Museum.

Admission to the exhibition is $6 for adults; $5 for students and seniors; $4 for children 6 to 12; free for children younger than 6 and includes an iPod audio tour.

Waking Dreams comes to the Saint Louis Art Museum as part of an international tour from the Delaware Art Museum, home to the Samuel and Mary R. Bancroft Collection, one of the most significant collections of Pre-Raphaelite art outside of the United Kingdom. The exhibition is organized and circulated by Art Services International, Alexandria, Virginia. -- www.stlouis.art.museum
