Carrie Underwood's New Single Imminent, New Album Gets Release Date

Carrie Underwood performs at Contingency Operating Base Speicher, Tikrit, Iraq.

It's been over two years since the last Carrie Underwood studio album was released but fans of the "American Idol" Season 4 winner need not wonder when the next one will arrive. A date has been set. And her next single is on its way as well.

The country singing juggernaut that is Carrie Underwood will hit the airwaves with new music beginning in the next few weeks. Her latest song, "Good Girl," is set to be released to country radio stations on February 23. That is just the precursor, of course, for bigger things to come.

According to the "American Idol" website, it was announced on Feb. 2 that Underwood's fourth collection of future hit songs has been given a release date of May 1.

"I am so excited to finally have new music," the 28-year-old singer told The Boot. "I was lucky enough to have an amazing tour from my last album, and it feels like it's been forever, but I really had a blast writing the songs, making the music, taking my time, because I wanted it to be perfect, and I feel like we're there. So, it's very exciting for me to have new stuff to sing."

In between the "Good Girl" and the as-yet-untitled album release dates, Underwood has a busy schedule of events planned. She will appear on “CMT Crossroads” with Aerosmith rock legend and current "American Idol" judge Steven Tyler, make an appearance at the 54th Grammy Awards, do the Country Radio Seminar in Nashville, and perform at the Nordstrom Nashville Symphony Fashion Show.

Underwood is the ranking "American Idol" alum in terms of downloads and album sales. Since she released her first album, 2005's Some Hearts, the Oklahoma girl that so captivated America in Season 4 of the hit reality singing contest has gone on to sell over 14 million albums worldwide, over 12 million of them in the United States. Some Hearts has sold over 7 million copies in the U. S. alone. All three of her albums have been certified at least double platinum.

She has had 14 No. 1 songs on the country charts and is the only "American Idol" graduate to place ten No. 1 songs in the top position from their first two albums.

In addition to her sales successes, Underwood has pulled in numerous awards, including five Grammys. She is nominated again this year for Best Country Solo Performance for her hit "Mama's Song."

Former "American Idol" judge (now producer and judge of Fox Television's "X Factor") Simon Cowell made the prediction during Carrie Underwood's journey to taking the Season 4 title that she would become the show's most successful artist. To date, she has become exactly that. And given the reported anticipation surrounding her forthcoming album, she will undoubtedly remain as such.
