Want to go where it's a bit warmer for Christmas or early into the new year? If the southern U. S. is still somewhat too far north for you, several airlines are offering deals to destinations south of the border the next few months.

Some people just don't want a white Christmas. Some also want to get away during the northern hemisphere's colder months. It's as simple as that. So take off to the Caribbean, Central or South America in the next couple months and don't worry so much about the airfare. According to Ariana Arghandewal at The Traveling Type at TravelChannel.com, deals on flights south of America's southern border are surprisingly easy to find.

Headed for the Caribbean? Flights out of New York to Grand Cayman can be had for as little as $302. JetBlue is offering low air fares to Ponce for under $300 and Delta has listed flights to San Juan and Aguadilla for $330. Travel tip: San Juan is not only a top U. S. destination for the holiday season, it is also a top worldwide destination for Christmas and the winter months.

How about Central America? Fares to Central American destinations are comparable to domestic air fares, believe it or not. For under $270, you can fly from San Francisco or New York to Costa Rica or San Salvador. And that's a round-trip ticket. Those same fares between San Francisco and San Jose, Costa Rica, are good through February.

For affordable packages to destinations in Central America and the Caribbean, Cancun-discounts.com provides a constantly updating selection.

And if South America is where you long to go, you can find air fares for under $300 from Houston or New York to several South American destinations, including Lima, Peru, and Quiche, Ecuador. At Latin Destinations, there is a 6-night Bogota/Cartagena deal for less than $950 out of Miami, Fla.
