Adam Lambert Joins Queen Tour: Honors Freddie Mercury As New Video Drops

Adam Lambert is a known Queen fan, especially when it comes to the late Freddie Mercury. In fact, the singing sensation performed the legend's anthem We Are The Champions with Kris Allen and the remaining members of the celebrated group on American Idol for the season finale in 2009.

Then, in November, Adam joined Brian May (on guitar) and Roger Taylor (on drums) again, this time in Belfast at the MTV Europe Awards 2012.

And now Adam will reportedly encore the MTV encore as he is said to be set to tour this summer at the Sonisphere music festival from July 6 through 8 with these two members of arguably the greatest glam rock group of all time.

And with that bit of rocking out comes a concert at Knebworth, England. the venue at which Queen played the last show with Mercury on hand. That was in 1986, a seminal year for the singer who passed away in 1991.

That said, it looks like 2012 could be a seminal year for the San Diego-raised Lambert, who is by no means trying to take over for the late, great Freddie Mercury.

In fact, the more contemporary rocker said after his MTV Europe offering, "....There's no intention in my mind of replacing Freddie. That's impossible. The way I'm choosing to view it is that it's a great honor and one I'm in no way going to shirk ... Being asked to front Queen is the best thing that can possibly happen."

Adam Lambert also offered his take on what he hopes to accomplish with this new gig, saying, "The intention is to pay tribute to Freddie and the band by singing some f---ing great songs. It's to keep the music alive for the fans and give it an energy that Freddie would have been proud of."

And hopefully, the 30-year-old singer who has rocked all over the world since appearing on the hit Fox show, will accomplish his goal. The tour, in which Lambert is said to be playing a few dates with Queen, also includes veteran groups such as Faith No More.

Prior to the Queen tour, if it happens, Adam Lambert will drop his sophomore solo album called Trespassing come March 20 after debuting the single Better Than I Know Myself at the end of 2011, with the video coming out today, February 3, 2012.

And perhaps the name of that video's single from his second disc will foreshadow more transformation from this already top-selling artist, a man who Freddie Mercury would likely be proud to have influenced in any way, shape or form.

Go glam rock!
