Foreign ministers from seven Muslim countries meet in Pakistan Sunday to discuss the Palestinian crisis, as well as the situation in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The foreign ministers of host Pakistan, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and Turkey are scheduled to attend the conference in Islamabad.
A Pakistani Foreign Office spokeswoman, Tasnim Aslam, says the aim of the conference is to lay the groundwork for a summit of Muslim leaders in the holy city of Mecca, hosted by Saudi King Abdullah. The date of the summit has not been finalized.
Iran and Syria will not be present at the conference but will be invited at a later stage.
