Bush Focuses Attention on Rising Health Care Costs

President Bush has renewed his call to overhaul the tax code for those who buy health insurance. In his weekly radio address Saturday, Mr. Bush said it was essential to reform America's health care system.

President Bush said if Washington does not act now, U.S. taxpayers will be paying nearly 50 percent of all health care spending within the next 10 years.

The president's health care proposal includes a standard tax deduction for health insurance. He has also called for allowing individual states to develop innovative solutions to reform America's health care system and restrain costs.

Some members of the Democratic Party, however, say Mr. Bush's health care plan does little to bring down health care costs or guarantee medical coverage.
