Freefall Dance Company will present Freefall at the Flicks at the Patrick Centre, Birmingham Hippodrome on Friday 1st March 2007. Freefall Dance Company provides opportunities for dancers of school-leaving age with severe learning disabilities. The Company was founded in autumn 2002, evolving from a partnership between Birmingham Royal Ballet and Fox Hollies School, Birmingham.
Initially consisting of six dancers, the Company increased to eight in 2003 and this season it will be welcoming three more gifted young people. The Company is led by former BRB soloist Lee Fisher and supported by BRB artist Jenny Murphy.
Inspired by genres such as the spaghetti western, silent movies, horror and film noir Freefall at the Flicks is the Company's very own tribute to Big Screen Classics, exploring themes from a variety of Hollywood films. The evening will include a premiere of Nightshade, the Company's most recent creation.
Freefall's dancers are invited to join the company in recognition of their talent, creativity and enthusiasm for dance. They meet once a week at BRB studios, each session beginning with a ballet class and closing with choreographic work on their performance pieces. All the dancers are frequent visitors to BRB's performances.
All members hold Freefall's Open College Network qualification 'Excellence in Ballet' at Entry level and are now completing their studies at level one.Freefall has created an extensive and varied repertory that they perform regularly at professional venues across the city. -- www.brb.org.uk
