British Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett held talks today in Kabul with Afghan President Hamid Karzai.
The meeting was the first in a series of consultations with government officials and the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force.
Britain has pledged to deploy 1,400 more troops in Afghanistan to help combat militants in southern Helmand Province. Beckett flew into Afghanistan on February 27 after talks in Islamabad.
