The NYSE Group, Inc. today reported short interest as of the close of business on the settlement date of August 15, 2008.
Based on information received from members and member organizations, short interest decreased to 17,803,736,505 shares from 18,324,822,275 (revised) shares on July 31, 2008.
The short interest on August 15 was equal to 4.66 percent of the total shares outstanding.
The short interest in warrants as of August 15 amounted to 359,115 warrants, compared to 311,613 warrants the previous period.
As of the settlement date, there were 3,701 stocks and 13 warrants available for trading. Of these, 3,187 issues had either a short position of at least 5,000 shares or a change of 2,000 shares since the last monthly report.
