Mantis Mineral Corp ('Mantis' -- CNQ 'MINE') is pleased to announce initial assay results of samples recently collected from its Cree Lake property. Three samples from the Flint Rock Occurrence returned individual assays of 47.8 gpt, 19.2 gpt and 7.4 gpt.
The Cree lake property is situated in the Swayze portion of the Abitibi greenstone belt 5,000-meters south of the former producing Kenty Gold Mine. The property hosts numerous gold showings including the Flint Rock occurrence. At this occurrence, a zone up to 100-meters wide that was blast trenched in several locations in the past has consistently returned high gold values. In 1961 D.C. McKechnie (Mining Engineer) sampled quarts vein material from these trenches and obtained gold values ranging from 46.6 gpt to 139.9 gpt.
A shallow, 34-hole diamond drill program also in the early 1960's, by Flint Rock Mines Limited, intersected gold values ranging from 13.7 gpt to 709.7 gpt. In 1990 MPH Consulting Ltd. sampled these trenches and reported gold values of up to 121.4 gpt. Prior to Mantis Mineral Corp acquiring the property in 2006, Caracle Creek International Consulting Inc. of Sudbury sampled these trenches and reported 10-samples with gold values ranging from 5.8 gpt to 97.0 gpt.
Mantis has also just recently located, 1600-meters east-northeast of the Flint Rock occurrence, the Buffalo-Canadian gold occurrence. Between 1933-1934 Buffalo-Canadian Gold Mines Limited stripped a gold bearing quartz vein for a 152-meter strike length. Mantis is currently in the midst of a sampling and trenching program targeting these gold occurrences. Channel cut sampling, portable drill core sampling, mechanical trenching and power washing are slated to be completed by month end.
Commented Walter Hanych, senior project geologist, "We are extremely excited to confirm the high grade nature of the Flint Rock occurrence and the location of the Buffalo Canadian gold occurrence which potentially adds to the strike length of this system. The two occurrences are separated by 1,400-meters within an 850-meter wide corridor of favourable geology. Additional assay results will be released over the coming weeks. Due to the prevalence of historical high-grade results and the numerous gold showings that exist on the property, a follow-up drill program is being scheduled for early 2009." -- www.cnxmarketlink.com
