In August 2008 RTS Index went down by 16,30%, as compared to the end of July 2008, and by the end of the trading session of August 29th, 2008 reached 1 646,14 points against 1 966,68 points as of the end of the previous month.
Most of the negative impact on the RTS Index dynamics was coming from falling prices for Sberbank ordinary shares (SBER) (-59,03 points), Gazprom ordinary shares (GAZP) (-51,91 points), Rosneft ordinary shares (ROSN) (-39,35 points).
The "second-tier" stock index – RTS-2 went down by 17,12% to reach 1 867,00 points (2 252,64 points as of the end of July, 2008). For the last month all key sectors, represented on the Russian stock market, showed a negative trend. The RTS Index – Financials demonstrated the largest drop: it fell by 18,04%. RTS Index – Industrials fell by 15,91%. RTS Index - Electric Utilities was the least liable to fall, it dropped by 11,69%.
In August 2008 the trading volume on RTS equaled 22,3 billion dollars (540,08 billion rubles*), including all types of trades.
The top sellers of the month on the RTS Stock market were Gazprom ordinary shares (GAZP) with the monthly turnover $206,0 mln, Sberbank ordinary shares (SBER) with the turnover $196,5 mln and LUKOIL ordinary shares (LKOH) – $135,0 mln. The share of the above securities in the turnover made up 23,55%, 22,46% and 15,44%.respectively.
The top gainers of the month were Mechel OAO ordinary shares (MTLR), that experienced a 22,07% growth to close at $26,55, PJSC "Krasny Kotelshchik" privileged shares (KRKOP) that went up by 9,09% to reach $0,6 and ordinary shares of OJSC Concern "KALINA" (KLNA) that gained 8,33% to close at $26,0.
The top losers of the month were ordinary shares of JSC "TGC-1" (TGKA), that fell in price by 54,40% to reach $0,00057, ordinary shares of IDGC of Northern Caucasus, JSC (MRKK) that went down by 48,21% to reach $4,2 and JSC "OGK-6"ordinary shares (OGKF) that were down by 37,7% to $0,038.
In August a considerable trading volume in bonds was registered. The top sellers of the month were LLC "FinanceBusinessGroup" bonds (FBGR02), whose trading volume stood at $66,5 mln. -- www.rts.ru
