After last year’s spectacular sellout concert, a glittering cast of musicians from Scotland and beyond come together to pay tribute to one of Scotland’s greatest ever musicians and to raise funds for his Memorial Trust. Ross Ainslie leads a superb young house band who will accompany many of tonight’s guests and perform Tunes For Gordon, five new pieces of music commissioned by the Trust, on 27 Sept. 08, at7:30 p.m.
The guestlist features world-class musicians from Ireland, Galicia and Brittany, pipe bands, young musicians, local talent, top-class pipers and traditional and Gaelic singers.
These include Andrew Carlisle, winner of the Gordon Duncan solo piping competition at Celtic Connections; Anxo Lorenzo, a groundbreaking exponent of the Galician gaita; from Brittany, Yannick Martin and Tangi Josset, whose personal story is as incredible as their playing; Perthshire tradition bearer Sheila Stewart making a rare appearance on home turf; flautist Brian Finnegan from the band Flook; and the brilliant Gaelic singer Cathy Ann MacPhee - a favourite of Gordon’s who travels all the way from Canada to be with us.
