STAPLES is challenging Canadians to participate in their Million Cartridge Challenge - a quest to help reroute one million ink and toner cartridges away from landfill sites by Earth Day, April 22, 2009.
It takes 400 to 1,000 years for one ink cartridge to decompose in a landfill. The STAPLES Million Cartridge Challenge is encouraging schools, parents, businesses and consumers to drop off their ink and toner cartridges to any STAPLES store in Canada between September 24, 2008 and Earth Day, 2009.
"Many Canadians don't know what to do with their empty cartridges and now STAPLES is offering the country an easy solution to a big problem," said Steve Matyas, president of STAPLES Canada.
"This challenge is a great way to help our environment. Collecting a million cartridges is an ambitious goal, but we believe we can do it with the help of all Canadians."
The Million Cartridge Challenge is part of the retailer's corporate giving program, community work, and an expansion of their successful Recycle for Education campaign, where the company donates funds generated through recycling back to schools across Canada. -- www.cnxmarketlink.com
