The Howl-O-Ween Harvest Happening

Fall in love with a fabulous new event at The Living Desert - "The Howl-O-Ween Harvest Happening," on October 25th, paying tribute to all things autumn.

"We wanted to do something different and unique this season," said Kimberly Bowers, the Director of Community Relations at The Living Desert. "In lieu of the traditional evening trick-or-treating event, The Howl-O-Ween Harvest Happening will be a fun-filled day of activities and entertainment."

Discover how animals harvest food and prepare for winter, enjoy the Community Harvest Area, featuring free samples of seasonal and locally grown food, free giveaways and interactive activities. And kids will earn their trick-or-treat goodies by participating in the Howl-O-Ween Scavenger Hunt, circling the park for creature clues - and all while learning about animals. The last stop will be the Sweet Patch for a bag of treats.

Other children's activities include fishing and digging for creepy crawlies at the Mystery Fishing Booth and Critter Dig; painting pumpkins at the Howl-O-Ween Pumpkin Patch, which kids can either take home or donate to The Living Desert animals as Halloween treats; and being photographed with costumed characters such as an owl, roadrunner, giraffe, lion and frog - who will be wondering the park looking for little ones to greet.

Fun for all ages includes a Sheep-Shearing Demonstration at 10:00 a.m., a Corn-shucking Contest at 12:30 p.m., a special harvest-themed Wildlife Wonder Show at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., and live entertainment from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Garden tours and demonstrations, seed giveaways and a lemonade stand round out the activities making an already exciting desert attraction the place to be on October 25th.

This one-day event brings traditional harvest delights to the desert, while providing lots of opportunities for learning and tons of zoo fun! -- The Living Desert
