Ballet Interplay To Open In Sydney

Following a critcally acclaimed Melbourne season, Interplay is set to open in Sydney on 6 November. Interplay is a groundbreaking triple bill for The Australian Ballet. For almost a year, three hotshot choreographers worked with three giants of Australian composition to create three brand-new works: Nicolo Fonte and Ross Edwards' The Possibility Space, Stephen Baynes and Richard Mills' Night Path, and Matjash Mrozewski and Gerard Brophy's Semele.

The three ballets cover as much artistic ground as the stories of their creation: an abstract spiritual journey, an atmospheric dreamscape, and a Greek myth given new life. Don't miss your chance to see history in the making!

"The dancers seem superhuman. Beyond human, perhaps." Herald Sun Read the reviews

Ever wondered how a ballet goes from an idea to a fully staged production?

The Interplayer website documents the creation of Semele with video footage, photos, profiles, costume sketches and audio, from the earliest inspiration to opening night. Over thirty entries track the designing, cutting, dyeing, and welding; the late-night phone calls; the casting and rehearsals; and the tyranny of distance when a composer, choreographer and designer are working from different corners of the globe. Performances will run through 25 November. -- www.australianballet.com.au
