Ning Feng Plays Paganini With Singapore Orchestra

When his father first bought him a violin, four-year-old Ning Feng had never seen the instrument before. Today the winner of the prestigious 2006 Paganini International Violin Competition gives over 80 concerts internationally in a year. On Nov 20, he will be in Singapore to perform no less than Paganini's Violin Concerto No. 1 with the SSO and Young Associate Conductor Darrell Ang.

One of the fastest rising violin stars in the world today, Ning Feng embarked on an extensive Asia-Australia-New-Zealand tour recently in July, with multiple debuts throughout those areas as well as in the US and Germany. Ning was last in Singapore in February this year for a recital.

Darrell Ang made headlines in the classical music world when he won the top prize at the 50th International Besancon Competition for Young Conductors in France in September last year. In that same year he also won the second prize at the prestigious Antonio Pedrotti International Competition for Orchestra Conductors in Italy. Ang is a graduate of the St Petersburg State Conservatory.

Also in this programme: from the Oscar-winning movie On the Waterfront comes one of Bernstein's most original musical scores. So inspired was he at one point of its composition that he wrote, "it seemed to me perhaps the most important part of the picture." -- www.sso.org.sg
