Over the week of October 20th – 24th, 2008, the RTS Index went down by 17,70% to reach 549,43 points (667,62 points as of October 17th, 2008). Most of the negative impact on the Index dynamics was related to the falling prices for Sberbank ordinary shares (SBER) (minus 33,47 points), Gazprom ordinary shares (GAZP) (minus 20,21 points) and ОАО "LUKOIL" ordinary shares (LKOH) (minus 17,99 points).
The "second-tier" stock index – RTS-2 shed 14,99% to reach 770,48 points (906,35 points as of October 17th, 2008). Last week all the key economy sectors represented on the Russian Stock Market closed in the negative territory. The major loser was the banking sector, the corresponding index shrank by 23,12%. Considerable decline was registered in the metals & mining and telecommunications sectors with each of the corresponding indices losing 18,44% in price. The slightest but still tangible drop was reported by the industrials sector. The RTSI – Industrials slumped 9,30%.

The total trading volume on RTS for the week October 20th – 24th, 2008 equaled 1,4 bln. dollars (36,9 bln. roubles*), including all types of trades.
The week's top sellers were Gazprom ordinary shares (GAZP) – $11,800 mln., followed by Sberbank ordinary shares (SBER) - $11,392 mln. and ОАО "LUKOIL" ordinary shares (LKOH) – $2,921 mln. The share of each security in the total trading volume made up 27,18%, 26,24% and 6,73% accordingly.
The week's top gainers were JSC "СhTRP" ordinary shares (CHEP) – by 133,33% to $3,5, ordinary shares of OJSC "Rostelecom" (RTKM) – by 28,89% to $5,8 and ordinary shares of PIK Group (PIKK) – by 10,0% to $3,85.
The week's top losers were Sberbank privileged shares (SBERP), that fell in price by 69,23% to reach $0,2, ordinary shares of IDGC of of Urals, JSC (MRKU) that closed 61,9% down at $0,004 per share and ordinary shares of PJSC "NUTRINVESTHOLDING" (NTRI) that posted 58,62% loss at $3,0. -- www.rts.ru
