RTS Stock Market Trading Results

Most of the negative impact on the RTS Index dynamics was coming from falling prices for Gazprom ordinary shares (GAZP) (minus 78,81 points), LUKOIL ordinary shares (LKOH) (minus 74,79 points) and Sberbank ordinary shares (SBER) (minus 65,02 points).

The "second-tier" stock index – RTS-2 went down by 46,68% to reach 733,29 points (1 375,18 points as of the end of September, 2008). All the key sectors, represented on the Russian stock market, showed a negative trend. The major negative contributor was the banking sector, the corresponding Sectoral Index shed 47,59%. Metals & mining reported a significant loss – 47,47%. The smallest nonetheless tangible decline was accounted for by the oil & gas sector, with the RTS Index – Oil & Gas shedding 32,15%.

In October 2008 the trading volume on RTS equaled 12,4 billion dollars (325,8 billion roubles*), including all types of trades.

The top sellers of the month on the RTS Stock Market were JSC "Salavatnefteorgsintez" ordinary shares (SNOZ) – $150,8 mln., Sberbank ordinary shares (SBER) - $61,3 mln., followed by Gazprom ordinary shares (GAZP) – $54,9 mln. The share of the above securities in the turnover made up 38,74%, 15,75% and 14,12% respectively.

The top gainers of the month were JSC "СhTRP" ordinary shares (KIRZ) that experienced a 25,00% growth to close at $3,5, ordinary shares of Surgutneftegas (SNGS) that went up by 18,87% to reach $0,63 and OJSC "Rostelecom" ordinary shares (RTKM) that gained 10,96% to end up at $8,1 per share.

The top losers of the month were ordinary shares of Kirovsky Zavod (KIRZ) that fell in price by 78,00% to reach $11,0, ordinary shares of GAZ (GAZA) that went down by 77,50% to reach $18,0 and ordinary shares of OJSC "Company "M.video", (MVID) that were down by 76,03% to $0,7. -- www.rts.ru
