The Cultch is pleased to announce the eleventh anniversary of the Rio Tinto Alcan Performing Arts Award: THEATRE 2010. This $60,000 production fund is open to performing arts companies resident in British Columbia, rotating annually between Dance, Theatre, and Opera/Music.

This year's competition is open to theatre companies. Application forms are available on The Cultch's website. The deadline for all submissions is Monday, December 8, 2008 at 5 pm.

The Rio Tinto Alcan Performing Arts Award was conceived to recognize the achievements of British Columbia performing arts companies and to foster the creation of new work by providing a significant financial investment in a new production by the chosen company. THEATRE 2010 celebrates the eleventh round of the award, and more than a decade of outstanding artistic innovation in British Columbia.

The award is administered by The Cultch, and selection is made by an independent panel of judges. The premiere (four performances) of the selected production is presented at the Vancouver East Cultural Centre as a key component of the award, and takes place in the spring of the year following the announcement of the chosen company.

Recipients of the Rio Tinto Alcan Performing Arts Award to date have included The Holy Body Tattoo (2000), The Electric Company (2001), Modern Baroque Opera Company (2002), battery opera (2003), Boca del Lupo (2004), The Hard Rubber Orchestra (2005), Kidd Pivot (2006), neworldtheatre (2007), Vancouver New Music (2008), and Wen Wei Dance (2009). -- www.theatrebc.org
