Royal Danish Theatre Plays La Traviata

Verdi’s gripping opera based on Alexandre Dumas’ tragedy about the courtesan Violetta, who lives a life of exceptional luxury but suffers a lonely death in poverty and affliction, is back in David Radok’s magnificent and elegant staging. Inger Dam-Jensen and Anne Margrethe Dahl will once again alternate in the principal role as the tuberculous beauty, who for a short moment experiences true love.

Performances will take place on 29 November, 08, 11, 17, 22, December and 02, 09, 11, 15 January.

Alfredo will once again be performed by Niels Jorgen Riis. And his father, Giorgio Germont, will be performed by baritone Anders Larsson, who has previously appeared in Strauss’ Capriccio at the Royal Danish Theatre. He shares the role with baritone Jorn Pedersen, who last season performed the title role in Verdi’s Rigoletto at a guest performance by the Danish National Opera.

Italian conductor Giancarlo Andretta, who has previously conducted Verdi’s La traviata, Rossini’s Il viaggio a Reims and La Cenerentola and Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor at the Royal Danish Theatre, will lead The Royal Danish Opera Chorus and The Royal Danish Orchestra.
