On Saturday, November 29, at 8 p.m., singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile will perform with Seattle Symphony in her debut appearance with a symphony orchestra. The concert also marks Carlile’s first performance at Benaroya Hall. Sean O’Loughlin, who wrote charts specifically for this performance, will lead the Orchestra and Carlile in a program of the singer’s original songs.
Brandi and her band will perform on the first half of the program and the Orchestra will join her for the second half. A limited number of tickets are still available.
"To hear Carlile nail it live…is to experience a little slice of pop heaven" (The Seattle Times). Brandi Carlile began playing the guitar and writing songs at age 15 in her hometown of Ravensdale, Washington, and has since ascended to mainstream stardom with her thoughtful lyrics and distinctive vocals. In late 2004, Carlile signed with Columbia Records on the strength of her home recordings and, in 2005, she and her band members, twins Tim and Phil Hanseroth, released her major label debut, Brandi Carlile. Reviews of the album universally heralded Carlile as an important new singer-songwriter and Rolling Stone featured her on its "10 Artists to Watch in 2005" list. By the end of 2006, Carlile had headlined her own national tour in addition to supporting other artists’ tours, including Ray LaMontagne, Johnny Lang, Hanson, The Indigo Girls, The Fray, Chris Isaak, Tori Amos and Shawn Colvin.
Carlile’s follow-up album, The Story, was released in April 2007 to national acclaim. Produced by Grammy Award–winning producer T Bone Burnett (Counting Crows, Roy Orbison), the album was recorded in an 11-day-long session with Carlile, the Hanseroth twins, cellist Josh Neumann and drummer Matt Chamberlain in order to capture the sound of her live performances.
Carlile and the band then embarked on a national tour and, later, tours of the United Kingdom and Australia, and saw The Story peak at #2 on the iTunes album sales chart. Carlile has since made several national television appearances, including The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Night with Conan O'Brien and The Early Show’s “Second Cup Cafe.” Several of Carlile’s songs have been featured on ABC’s hit television show Grey’s Anatomy and The Story’s title track was recently featured on a General Motors commercial which aired during the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. -- www.seattlesymphony.org
