Holiday POPS Spectacular Returns To Bushnell

Mortensen Hall at the Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts will be transformed into a “Winter Wonderland” on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. as the Hartford Symphony Orchestra presents its annual Holiday POPS! Spectacular.

Led by Music Director Edward Cumming, this Hartford holiday tradition will feature festive carols and seasonal favorites, with guest performances by soprano Christy Lombardozzi, The Hartford Chorale, the Connecticut Children’s Chorus, and even a special visit from jolly old St. Nick!

Soprano Christy Lombardozzi recently completed her studies with the Yale Opera Program where she performed the roles of Adele in Die Fledermaus, Musetta in La Boheme, Diane in Orphee aux Enfers, and Polpolka in Comedy on a Bridge. Recent performance highlights include Lisette in La Rondine, Lidochka in Moskva, and Diane in Orphee aux Enfers with Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano; Belinda in Dido and Aeneas with the Connecticut Chamber Orchestra; and Papagena in The Magic Flute with the Hot Springs Music Festival. Equally at home on the concert stage, Ms. Lombardozzi's oratorio credits include Haydn’s Creation, Handel’s Messiah, and Haydn’s Missa Sancti Nicolai. Ms. Lombardozzi holds degrees from Yale University, University of Tennessee, and the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria.

The Hartford Chorale is the primary symphonic chorus for the Greater Hartford community, particularly in its critically acclaimed collaborations with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. Through its concerts and collaborations with the Hartford Symphony and other organizations, the Chorale seeks to reach and inspire the widest possible audience with exceptional performances of a broad range of choral literature, including renowned choral masterpieces.

The Connecticut Children's Chorus is the Hartford region's most comprehensive youth chorus program. Under the artistic direction of Dr. Stuart Younse, the Chorus continues to thrive as the region's premiere children's chorus, boasting performance invitations with the region's best professional ensembles and providing strength and excellence in training for Connecticut's youngest talented voices. The Chorus is split into five different levels, offering opportunities for students in grades one through twelve. Each choir performs a wide variety of high quality literature and receives regular training in vocal development and musicianship. -- www.hartfordsymphony.org
