These informal 30-minute concerts will take place on Monday 1 December at Lara Community Centre, Rosewall Neighbourhood Centre, Norlane Neighbourhood House and the Cloverdale Community Centre. This initiative is part of the MSO’s Community Outreach program made possible though Shell Geelong Refinery’s essential ongoing support in the region. Members of the MSO Roger Young, violin; Lynette Rayner, violin; Caleb Wright, viola; and Rohan de Korte, cello will perform a range of popular classical music for string quartet by wellknown composers such as Mozart, Bach and Beethoven.
Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Violinist, Roger Young is looking forward to these performances.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity to perform in a more relaxed and intimate environment. For us as musicians, it’s a chance to interact with audiences in a different way”, he said. “We’re grateful for Shell Geelong Refinery’s continuing support of this program.”
For the past five years, Shell Geelong Refinery has supported the MSO Outreach program in a range of activities including creative workshops in schools and performances in community centres. Projects this year have included visits to four primary schools across the Geelong area, a one-day workshop at Corio Bay Secondary school and performances in community centres by the MSO Brass Quintet.
The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s Community Outreach program explores the capacity of a symphony orchestra to contribute to the lives of all members of the wider community, beyond the concert platform. It looks at the power of music to bring people together, and creates opportunities for groups and individuals to interact with musicians from the Orchestra in diverse ways. It is the only program of its kind in Australia, bringing MSO musicians into schools and community groups. -- www.mso.com.au
