Aladdin took flight on a very different magic carpet recently, Kevin Sacre who stars in Aladdin at the Lyceum posed with some of the iconic multi coloured Crucible carpet straight after a matinee performance.
He loved the idea that Sheffield Theatres were selling a piece of our history. The carpet has been cut into various pieces and is being sold as part of Sheffield Theatres Trust fundraising campaign, this will help raise money for the next stage redevelopment of the Crucible Theatre.
The carpet has seen many a star waltz across it over its 20 year stay in the theatre including Derek Jacobi, Joanna Lumley, Joseph Fiennes, and Kenneth Branagh. Also not to mention the Snooker stars, Steve Davis, John Higgins and Shaun Murphy.
The Sheffield Theatres Trust has raised over ?15m towards our target from such organisations as Arts Council England, the European Regional Development Fund, Sheffield City Council and Yorkshire Forward; however we still need to raise funds in order for us to realise our vision. Members of the public can support the redevelopment by purchasing a piece of the iconic, multi coloured Crucible carpet, sponsoring a seat in either the main auditorium or the Studio, sponsoring a ‘twinkle light’ in the Crucible or supporting the Archive Project.
Aladdin runs at the Lyceum until 10 January 2009. -- www.sheffieldtheatres.co.uk
