Part theater and part gospel concert, Black Nativity encompasses both the traditions of a church service and the legacy of poet Langston Hughes and his commitment to social activism. This season’s production includes references to the historic election of Barack Obama.

Black Nativity is directed by Jacqueline Moscou and choreographed by Kabby Mitchell III, with music direction by Pastor Patrinell Wright. Pastor Wright also leads the company, which includes Rev. Mr. Joseph E. Connor, G. To’mas Jones and Phyllis C. Yasutake as Narrators; Bojohn Diciple as Joseph and Pamela Yasutake as Mary; members of the Total Experience Gospel Choir and Black Nativity Choir; and an onstage band.

Special guests during this season’s run include the full Total Experience Gospel Choir, soul vocalist Choklate, gospel singers Jacquie Berg, and past American Idol contestants Karma Johnson and Sanjaya Malakar.

The production is sponsored in part by Safeco Insurance, with additional support from The Boeing Company, U.S. Bancorp Foundation and Starbucks Coffee Company. The participation of the guest artists is made possible by The Boeing Company. -- www.intiman.org
