Liverpool Museum unveils Shoulder harp as part of it's newest items exhibited online.
This Middle Kingdom wooden shoulder harp is from the tomb of Senuatef and his family. It was discovered between two coffins by Professor John Garstang at Beni Hasan in his 1902-4 excavations.
The sound box cover and original strings have not survived.
The sound box would have been covered with parchment, which was attached through pairs of holes along the edge. A notched bar with a curved neck and five pegs would have supported 5 strings. -- www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk
