Special Holiday Event At Tucson Symphony

The best place in Tucson to ring in 2009 enjoying fine music, dining and dancing in a variety of unique, sumptuous settings all in one location will be with members of the acclaimed Tucson Symphony Orchestra in the elegant surroundings of the Arizona Inn.

The festivities begin on Wednesday, December 31 st, at 6:30 pm and mark the second of four Moveable Musical Feasts the Tucson Symphony Orchestra has planned for this season. Get the New Year off to a memorable start with a romantic evening filled with classical music and jazz, a multi course signature creation by Arizona Inn’s head chef, an open bar, champagne toasts and plenty of fun in an exquisite setting for just $195 per person, all inclusive. Please contact the Arizona Inn, 888-812-4758, for a special New Year’s Eve room rate.

This New Year’s Eve marks a special celebration for two of Tucson’s oldest and best businesses. On New Year’s Eve 80 years ago, the Tucson Symphony Orchestra was preparing for its first performance on January 13, 1929. The historic, luxury boutique Tucson resort hotel opened 78 years ago on December 18. Now, the music of the TSO is available internationally on its first CD released in 2008 and the Arizona Inn is on the Conde Nast Traveler Gold List among the “World’s Best Places to Stay.”

The evening will showcase the versatility of TSO players. Homero Ceron, TSO principal percussion, will be featured on vibes as patrons arrive in the Flandrau House Courtyard for champagne cocktails, open bar and passed hors-d’uvres including miniature crab cakes and ahi tuna on crisp won tons. The first concert, held in the Tucson Room, will start the stylish evening with TSO’s Piano Trio featuring pianist Paula Fan, violinist Michael Fan and cellist Nelzimar Neves performing favorites by Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Puccini and Tchaikovsky.

Dinner will be served in five intimate and elegant dining rooms throughout the Inn. Start with wedges of romaine salad with herbed croutons, shaved parmesan cheese, and a Caesar vinaigrette dressing. After cleansing your palate with orange basil sorbet, feast on a sumptuous split entree—petite filet mignon with zinfandel demi glace and Arctic char with a lemoncello beurre blanc—fresh baby carrots and asparagus, carmelized onion mashed potatoes and your choice of red and white wines. Vegetarian entrees are also available.

Following dinner, enjoy performances by two of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra’s leading “stars”— Violinist Carla Ecker and Clarinetist Jeremy Reynolds — each accompanied by Paula Fan. Following the performance celebrants will return to their dinner tables for more conversation and a luscious dessert of miniature, classic chocolate torte and cheesecake with berry compote, and coffee, decaf, regular and herbal tea or milk.

Armed with sparkly hats and New Year’s Eve favors, guests will move to a magically-created elegant nightclub, with classic dance tunes by the Tucson Symphony Orchestra’s “SwingN the New” Jazz Band featuring the vocal stylings of Martha Reed for your dancing and listening pleasure. Viennese coffee, displays of international and domestic cheeses and fruit, plus champagne for the midnight toast all combine to ring in 2008 in grand style!

The Moveable Musical Feasts were initiated by the Tucson Symphony Orchestra to offer patrons a complete evening of intimate ensemble performances while dining in Tucson’s unique architectural and cultural settings.

In years past at the New Year’s Eve Moveable Musical Feast, new friends have been made and old acquaintances have been celebrated by Tucsonans out for a night on the town and by patrons from as far away as Texas and British Columbia who have come to Tucson for the holidays to escape the winter weather. -- www.tucsonsymphony.org
