PHOENIX THEATRE announces its 12th New Works Festival, and its third national playwrights' competition.

The New Works Festival presents four staged readings of plays each summer at Phoenix Theatre, the oldest arts organization in Arizona and the largest Phoenix-based producing theatre. Playwrights whose work has been presented include Jack Heifner, Janet Neipris, Hal Corley, James McClure, Rich Orloff, Dale Wasserman, & Richard Warren.

The Phoenix Theatre New Works Festival will select two of the plays for the 2008 Festival from a national competition. We are seeking new works requiring a company of no more than 5 performers; and no more than 3 locations.

We offer a staged reading, with professional actors and directors, to be held during the summer of 2008 in Phoenix. The Playwright receives travel to and lodging in Phoenix for participation in the process, as well as a small honorarium.

Plays are screened by a committee consisting of professional directors and actors from the Phoenix Theatre company and graduate students from the Arizona State University Playwriting program. Please submit a full, printed script – online submissions will not be reviewed. Include a SASE if you wish the script returned. Submissions must be received by BY JANUARY 15, 2009. -- www.phoenixtheatre.com
