Celebrated TV and stage actor Stephen Tompkinson (Wild at Heart, Drop the Dead Donkey, Ballykissangel) is back on the Fylde Coast where he grew up to star in the hilarious human comedy Sign Of The Times at Blackpool’s Grand Theatre from Monday 11th May to Saturday 16th May.

From the writer of Calendar Girls comes an exciting new comedy that reunites renowned writer Tim Firth with Stephen Tompkinson for the first time since their multi-award winning TV series All Quiet on the Preston Front and Christmas comedy The Flint Street Nativity.

From forty-foot yellow IKEAs to five-foot red COMETs, Frank Tollit (Stephen Tompkinson) has put up giant letters on the sides of buildings for over twenty-five years.

It’s his talent… but not his ambition. That involves letters of a very different sort – literary ones. And lack of success is driving him to the edge. Not even in one of his wildest plots could Frank have dreamed that salvation would turn up in the shape of a clumsy teenager on work experience. This master simply isn’t prepared for what his apprentice is about to teach him, sixty feet up on a ledge above Yorkshire. And neither one is prepared for the surprises in store at their next high-level meeting…

Deliciously funny, affectionate and touching, Sign Of The Times is an acutely-observed human comedy about the art of achieving happiness in unpredictable times.

Stephen Tompkinson was last seen at Blackpool’s Grand Theatre in the comic masterpiece Tartuffe in March 2006 and can currently be seen in the African animal hospital drama Wild at Heart on Sundays at 8.30pm on ITV1.
