Grammy winning vocalist Steve Tyrell returns to the McCallum Theatre on Saturday, February 21, at 8:00pm. In his four decades in the music business, Steve has achieved success as an artist, producer, songwriter, music supervisor, and performer. He is a Grammy-winning producer, a two time Emmy nominee, and has been nominated for Academy and Golden Globe Awards.
Steve partnered with Barry Mann and they quickly found success. Barry, with his wife Cynthia Weill, wrote "Somewhere Out There" for the animated film, An American Tail. Steve's co-production of the song, as performed by Linda Ronstadt and James Ingram, rocketed to #1 and won Grammys for "Song of the Year" and "Best Song From a Motion Picture," and also earned an Academy Award nomination.
Music fans were introduced to Steve, the singer, through Father of the Bride in which he appeared and sang "The Way You Look Tonight." The songs he has sung in hit movies, "The Way You Look Tonight," "I've Got A Crush on You," and "The Simple Life" launched thousands of weddings and millions of romances. Steve's first three albums, A New Standard, Standard Time, and This Time of Year, all reached the top of the jazz charts and stayed there for unprecedented runs. At the request of the Sinatra family, Steve was the featured performer at the Hollywood Bowl when Frank Sinatra was inducted into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame. With encouragement from Quincy Jones and the Sinatra family, Steve's released Songs of Sinatra, and found additional success with his CDs This Guy's In Love and The Disney Standards.
Steve's most recent CD Back to Bacharach has been nominated for a Grammy award. Back to Bacharach is a deeply personal collection of songs from the piano of Burt Bacharach and the pen of Hal David. Every recording artist has one album that they are destined to make, an album so in-sync with their sensibility and history that it is pure destiny. For Steve, that album is Back to Bacharach.
