
After three months of auditions, Premier Theatre Company has finally cast its production of the hilarious hit musical The Producers and has now confirmed that Betty Legs Diamond (leading lady at Funny Girls, Blackpool) will star as Scott the Choreographer.
Two local actors have also landed the leading roles of Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom, who will be played by Chris Campbell and Andy Figg. The leading lady, Ulla, goes to St Annes dance teacher, Sarah Appleton and the rest of the cast will come from right across the North West. Simon Green (Betty Legs Diamond) is also to choreograph this exciting production, along with Kelvin Futers as Musical Directors and Sarah Jane Stone as Artistic Director.
The Poulton-based theatre company is expecting a star-studded opening night at Blackpool’s Grand on Tuesday 7th July with guest celebrities from the world of TV, film and stage. First to accept the company’s invitation was actress Gemma Craven - famous for the TV series Pennies from Heaven - who has herself performed at the Grand Theatre in smash-hit musical productions such as 42nd Street and Calamity Jane.
Executive Producer of Premier Theatre Company, Tony Stone, said: “Betty Legs Diamond is perfect for this character, and I know this will be a great opportunity for the cast to work with such an experienced professional as Simon. Whilst the show has made a touring visit to Manchester starring Peter Kay, this will be a ‘first’ and a major production at Blackpool’s Grand Theatre, bringing audiences from the both the local area and beyond.”
The Producers, written by Mel Brooks, is a slick comedy set to a clever and vibrant musical score. The 1968 movie, starring Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder as a down on his luck producer and his accountant with their get rich quick plan of staging the world’s worst show, became a Broadway sensation and won twelve Tony Awards! The recent UK sell-out tour starred North West comedian Peter Kay, while the 2005 film remake starred Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick and Uma Thurman.
