Suzanne's break as an actress came as the blonde driving the white Thunderbird in American Graffiti, followed by her role as Chrissy on "Three's Company." She played the title role in "She's the Sheriff," and starred in "Step by Step" which ran for seven seasons. She hosted a daytime talk show, "The Suzanne Somers Show," and, from 1998-2000, was the co-host of "Candid Camera." Suzanne has a successful career as a live performer. Her one-woman, musical autobiography, The Blonde in the Thunderbird, debuted on Broadway in a limited engagement in 2005. She has toured extensively with her nightclub act for the past 24 years, appearing in Monte Carlo, Atlantic City, Lake Tahoe, and Las Vegas.
Suzanne has authored 18 books, including eight New York Times bestsellers. Keeping Secrets (1988), chronicled her childhood as the daughter of an abusive alcoholic and the effect that had on her life. In 1997, Suzanne published Suzanne Somers' Eat Great, Lose Weight, the first in a phenomenally popular series of books on "Somersizing," her sensible approach to weight loss and a healthier lifestyle. Selling more than 1 million copies, Suzanne's book The Sexy Years (2004) focused on positive aging and started a revolution in the way women think about their bodies and menopause. Ageless (2006), Suzanne's book on anti-aging medicine and maintaining an optimal quality of life, became an instant #1 bestseller.
In 2006, Suzanne launched her direct sales and home party company, SUZANNE, an outgrowth of her product line on suzannesomers.com. She is the owner of the ThighMaster personal fitness products (more than 10 million sold), and the Suzanne Somers Jewelry Collection on Home Shopping Network. She also created a line of skin and hair care products, apparel, and Somersize food products. FaceMaster, a facial toning system approved by the FDA, was introduced in 2000. In 2003, Suzanne introduced her newest fitness product, the BodyRow, and in 2008, added the Suzanne Somers EZ GYM portable gym. For her efforts, the Electronic Retailing Association presented Suzanne with its Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005.
Suzanne has been honored numerous times, including a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame; induction into the Hall of Fame for Books for Better Life, and the Rick Weiss Humanitarian Award for her efforts on behalf of AIDS-related projects. She has received national awards and recognition for her dedicated work on behalf of the children of alcoholics, and for her support for research on the effects of alcoholism on families.
