Renowned opera company, Ellen Kent, is bringing Puccini’s Turandot and Verdi’s Aida to Blackpool’s Grand Theatre on Monday 23rd and Tuesday 24th March.
These two dazzling new productions will be staged in a magnificent amphitheatre setting and performed by handpicked international soloists alongside the full Chisinau National Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus.
Ellen Kent presents Puccini’s final masterpiece Turandot in celebration of the life of the great opera singer Luciano Pavarotti, highlighting the unforgettable aria Nessun Dorma. Ellen was inspired to produce her first opera in 1993 by Pavarotti’s performance at the 1990 World Cup which opened up opera to the masses.
Turandot tells the captivating story of the cold-blooded princess surrounded by suitors who face death if they fail to answer her riddle correctly and the one man who can melt the ice in her heart. Ancient China is brought breathtakingly to life with the Terracotta Army gazing down from Will Bowen’s spectacular set in this epic production.
Sung in Italian with English surtitles
The splendour of Egypt is set against the grandeur of the Colosseum of Rome in this spectacular production of Verdi’s Aida. Ellen’s direction is influenced by the ancient Greek dramas of Euripides and symbolises the powerful religious hold of the priests of Egypt and includes dance sequences based on the ancient temple dancers.
This tragic love story of war, jealousy and revenge is centred around the doomed love of the beautiful Ethiopian slave girl Aida and the Egyptian hero Radames and is brought magnificently to life in a stunning production set against one of the greatest pieces of music Verdi ever wrote with the well know arias Celest Aida, Ritorna Vincitor and the great chorus piece the Triumphal March. -- www.blackpoolgrand.co.uk
