Enjoy Summer Art Camp At Delaware Museum

The Delaware Art Museum’s summer program for children ages 6 – 12 provides a creative experience in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Each two-week camp session is held in the Museum’s Bank of America Education Wing and includes regular visits to the Museum’s galleries and the Copeland Sculpture Garden.

Camp is full-day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Each session will be divided into two age groups: 6 – 9 years old and 10 – 12 years old.

Session 1: A World of Art
June 22 – July 3, 2009

Uncover your own artistic spirit! Campers will discover the joy of folk art through art projects. Kids will learn about African American art, visit the Smithsonian’s Ancestry and Innovation exhibition on view at the Delaware Art Museum, and make paintings, prints, and clay sculptures. Campers will experiment with assemblages, textiles, sewing, found art, and more!

Session 2: Animal Adventures
July 6 – 17, 2009

Come on an adventure through the Museum and explore animals in artwork such as Deborah Butterfield’s Riot and Abbott Handerson Thayer’s The Old Lion. Creative artwork will be inspired by all kinds of animals, both real and imagined. Projects include ceramic figures, cut paper designs, and roaring masks.

Session 3: Passion for Abstraction
July 20 – 31, 2009

Find your passion for dreamy drawings and colorful designs. Explorations of modern art in the Museum’s collection will inspire creative and fun artwork. Campers will begin to investigate what “abstraction” means. After looking at works by artists like Hans Hoffman and Al held, campers will make their own splatter paintings, collages, and funky sculptures.

Session 4: Art Detectives
August 3 – 14, 2009

The Museum is full of mysteries to explore! Uncover the techniques of the masters as you discover shape, form, pattern, color, and line. Campers will learn “secret” techniques and interesting applications to make their own paintings, prints, and sculptures. Put together the clues of the art world to reveal your own creativity! -- www.delart.org
