Andrew Motion Performs At Southbank Centre

Southbank Centre, London presents Andrew Motion playing in ‘Leaving the Laureateship’.

The performance will take place on Tuesday 28 April 2009, at 7.45pm.

As Andrew Motion's time as Poet Laureate draws to a close, he reflects on the role, its opportunities and the profile of poetry today.

This is the first time a Laureate concludes a fixed term in office and tonight's historic lecture and discussion is the first valedictory event by a Poet Laureate.

Andrew also reads from and discusses his long-awaited new poetry collection, The Cinder Path. Offering a remarkable variety of lyrics, love poems and elegies, the collection brings together the private domain of feeling and a sense of shared humanity in its response to loss and its inevitabilities.

This special event marks Faber & Faber's 80th anniversary and the Poetry Society's centenary. -- www.southbankcentre.co.uk
