Blackpool Theatre Stages My Fair Lady

Wouldn’t it be Loverly to see My Fair Lady at Blackpool’s Grand Theatre from Wednesday 29th April to Saturday 2nd May?

Blackpool Operatic Players make a welcome return to the Grand with Lerner and Loewe’s smash-hit musical My Fair Lady following their sensational productions of Thoroughly Modern Millie and Oliver!

The misogynistic and snobbish phonetics professor Henry Higgins agrees to a wager with his friend Colonel Pickering that he can successfully pass off common Cockney flower girl, Eliza Doolittle, as a refined society lady. He teaches her how to speak with an upper class accent and trains her in etiquette, but when the end result produces a very ladylike Miss Doolittle, the lessons learned become much more far reaching.

This much-loved production features some of the most popular songs in musical theatre history from the memorable The Rain in Spain to the rambunctious Get Me To The Church on Time, the beautiful I’ve Grown Accustomed To Her Face and the unforgettable Wouldn’t it be Loverly.

Adapted from George Bernard Shaw’s celebrated play and Gabriel Pascal’s motion picture Pygmalion; the 1956 musical production on Broadway was a smash hit, setting a new record for the longest run of any major musical theatre production in history. The 1965 film musical My Fair Lady famously starred Audrey Hepburn as Eliza and Rex Harrison as Professor Higgins and won eight Academy Awards. -- www.blackpoolgrand.co.uk
