On Thursday, April 30 and Saturday, May 2 at 8 pm in the Schuster Center, Music Director Neal Gittleman and the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra will present the Miami Valley & Good Samaritan Hospitals Classical Series program Vivid Passions, featuring the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Dmitri Shostakovich, and Ludwig van Beethoven.
Mozart completed not just this program’s opening work, the Overture to La Clemenza di Tito, but the entire opera in just 18 days, some of it while in a carriage on way to its premiere in Prague! Shostakovich wrote this program’s centerpiece, his Symphony No. 6, just one step ahead of Soviet censors in the Stalin era.
Violinist Stephanie Chase, hailed as “one of the violin greats of our era,” concludes the program with Beethoven’s Violin Concerto, “one of the crowning achievements of Beethoven's exploration of the concerto.” (Michael Rodman, All Media Guide)
