Minneapolis Institute Of Arts will run an exhibition named 'Art of the Northern Plains' from Saturday, December 5, 2009 to Sunday, March 7, 2010, at Galleries 255 and 256.
This exhibition consists of objects attributed to the peoples of Fort Belknap Indian Reservation and the Northern Plains. It covers the rich history, culture, and arts of the A'aninin (Gros Ventre) and Nakoda (Assiniboine) peoples.
Fort Belknap Indian Reservation, home of the A’aninin tribe, is located in north-central Montana and is shared with the Nakoda. West of Fort Belknap is the Blackfeet Indian Reservation, and north into Canada is home to the Cree.
This triangle of tribal groups influenced one another’s artwork in terms of color, technique, and design. The exhibition will explore the artistic and cultural relationships among these tribes. -- www.artsmia.org
