On Tuesday, May 5, the Chicago History Museum will take part in Cinco de Mayo festivities for the first time. In honor of this holiday, the Museum will provide live music, dancing, cocktails, appetizers and more. The fiesta begins at 7:00 p.m. and runs until 9:30 p.m.
Originally a day to celebrate the victory of the poorly-armed, outnumbered Mexican forces against the French military at the Battle of Puebla in 1862, Cinco de Mayo has become a full-blown celebration of Mexican heritage and culture around the world.
The Museum’s festivities start with a brief lecture explaining the significance of the holiday, followed by a drink-mixing demonstration with an expert Adobo Grill mixologist that will divulge tricks of the trade for blending (or shaking) an amazing margarita.
To continue the celebration, a mariachi band will entertain guests. All type of Mexican music will play as guests sample Adobo Grill’s fresh, homemade guacamole, try a bottle of Mexican beer, and taste blanco, reposado, and anejo tequilas.
Later, guests can indulge in the sweet decadence of Vosges-Haut Chocolat. Guests will learn that the flavors of tequila and chocolate make a superb match. The evening finishes off with dancing. -- www.chicagohistory.org
