Spring Into Science At UK Museum

Controversy, comedy, media, molecules, electricity, economics and more. The Science Museum’s Dana Centre is the premier venue in London for adults to enjoy science. Many Dana Centre events are free and all promise the opportunity to discover a new side of science.

This season’s discussions, performances and interactive evenings cover:

Light Matter

This season we strip science down to its novelty underwear as we invite you to experience a season of comedy performances intent on exposing science at its least sombre.

Enter the swirling depths of memory with Rosie Wilby as she combines beginner’s neuroscience and DIY stylings in ‘I Am Nesia’ (28 May). Celebrate the lighter side of Darwin’s achievements in ‘Carole Jahme is Sexually Selected!’ (30 June) And our resident comedians Punk Science maximize the mirth with two brand new shows: Spaced Out (14 May) and A (very!) Brief History of Science (16 June).

Life Force

In ‘Life in Colour’ (4 June) we look at how colours influence our moods and how the earth’s seasons regulate internal body clocks in ‘Seasons of Life’ (11 June). We’ll explore how we can modify ourselves as we ask whether computers are rewiring teenagers’ brains in ‘Rewired Teens?’ (6 May). And finally, in ‘Man Made’ (10 June), we explore attempts to mimic natural forces by creating artificial evolution.

Takeaway Festival

The Takeaway Festival (19-21 May) of do-it-yourself media returns to the Dana Centre for a fourth year. The Festival also marks the start of a 2-week exhibition of originally conceived projects that look to RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tags and the DIY music ethos for their cues. Expect eerie floating choirs and Oyster card triggered robotics as we open our doors to projects which pull apart and re-connect media and technology in unexpected ways. -- www.sciencemuseum.org.uk
