Celebrating its 32nd year in the piano business, Robert Lowrey’s Piano Experts, in partnership with Schimmel Pianos, proudly presents the Toronto Symphony Orchestra National Piano Competition.
This prestigious piano competition attracts Canada’s finest pianists between 16 – 25 years old and will dramatically unfold on May 22nd, 23rd (from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.) and Sunday May 24th at noon, at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.
A biennial event created to foster young talent, the competition has been a project of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra Volunteer Committee for over 20 years.
Previous winners include acclaimed virtuoso Stewart Goodyear, who drew rave reviews for his recent appearances with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony, the Cincinnati Symphony, and the Dallas Symphony; 23-year old Darrett Zusko from Windsor, who is quickly establishing himself as one of today's up-and-coming soloists, and Todd Yaniw, another rising star of the Canadian classical music scene.
Competitors from across Canada will vie for the illustrious grand prize. Owing to the ever-growing number of candidates, the competition has evolved into a multi-stage event.
Prizes for this prestigious event include:
* First Prize: $8,000 (Roy Thomson Hall) and a performance with the TSO
* Second Prize: $5,000 (TSVC) and a recital in the Glenn Gould School's Wednesdays at Noon series
