Abbas Kiarostami To Lead London Opera

Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami has made a profound impression with the poetic use of Western classical music in his films. Now he turns to the operatic stage with his production of Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte.

Winner of the Cannes Film Festival Palme d’Or for his A Taste of Cherry, Kiarostami has received worldwide acclaim for the simplicity and psychological depth of his work. Using spectacular filmed backdrops, he contains the world of Mozart’s popular comic opera in a beautiful period setting.

Susan Gritton, Fiona Murphy, Thomas Glenn and Liam Bonner play the young lovers caught up in romantic intrigue and double-dealing. Steven Page is the cynical and scheming Don Alfonso, Sophie Bevan the capricious, opportunistic maid Despina. Mozart specialist Stefan Klingele makes his English National Opera, London conducting debut.
