The internationally acclaimed Marina Abramovic is the curator and lead artist of this epic exhibition of performance art, running from Friday 3 to Sunday 19 July. Unprecedented in Britain, it features some of the most innovative performance artists working today.
For this ground-breaking event, all of the public spaces of the Whitworth have been emptied of their art and design. No part of the collection is on display, giving all the galleries over to the making and experiencing of performance art.
Each day the exhibition will begin with an hour-long performance initiation by Marina Abramovic leading up to a series of encounters between artists and audience. Provocative and visceral in its intent, this exhibition demands much from its artists and viewers.
